8 WEEK INTRODUCTORY COURSE

This popular 8 week course is for those new to yoga, continuing with this class or wanting to refresh their practice after a long absence of attending classes. The step-by-step instruction and demonstrations of the foundational asanas, and introduction to breath awareness and relaxation techniques will boost your  well being and confidence.

The course is regularly held on Tuesday evenings and Thursday mornings. It is a foundation for learning the whole scope and depth of the Iyengar method is taught in standing poses, shoulder stand and other fundamental postures, and breath awareness.

This course is for students new to Iyengar yoga or those interested in beginning their yoga practice, or students wanting to review beginning poses. The course runs for 8 consecutive weeks and is designed to teach the correct foundations of Iyengar yoga. Each week classes build from the previous one leading to a gradual steady development.

The focus at Om Yoga is on building up your strength and confidence with your yoga practice. We understand that each student has different strengths and weaknesses, and will be more able in some poses and movements than others.

At completion, students often repeat another Introductory course or move into a Beginners class. Speak to your teacher if you are unsure as to what to do.

Please wear comfortable free to move in clothes. We practice with bare feet.

These classes are not open for casual attendance.
To secure your place you need to pay in advance.

PRENATAL YOGA

Classes are held on Saturday mornings at 10 – 11.30am with Bronwyn Coles, a highly experienced prenatal yoga teacher of 20yrs.

The benefits in attending these special classes in a comforting safe environment will  provide valuable support and information to assist your pregnancy and birth. Clear and concise instruction is given to the importance of good postural alignment and by practising the many asanas to maintain a healthy, mobile and pain free body, you are protecting yourself and your baby’s wellbeing in the womb.

You will be guided in pranayama, involving deep rhythmic Ujjayi breathing to practice for birth. This improves your respiratory capacity progressively,  and has a calming effect on your nervous system and increases willpower. Over the duration of attending classes you will gain a deeper understanding of the body/mind and its particular needs in the childbearing year.

You will be offered alternative poses and guided in the  use of props depending on your stage of pregnancy. The classes are entirely suitable and safe for all to attend, whether or not you have previous yoga experience or, are new to yoga. Birthing skills and group discussion are a part of each class. These classes will greatly assist you and your partner in gaining confidence for labour and birth and parenting.

We continually receive heartfelt testimonials from previous women attendees on their positive birth experiences and friendships and bonding that were formed in prenatal yoga are ongoing, sometimes decades later, and deeply sustaining.
