The founder and principal teacher, Wendy Samek, has a long history of teaching yoga in Australia and Jakarta, Indonesia.

She has mentored a generation of yoga teachers, who have spread to the many corners of the world.

Wendy annually visits the Ramamani Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune India, and has done for close to 30 years.

She has had the great privilege of learning directly under BKS Iyengar and his children Geeta and Prashant Iyengar in Pune. The death a few years back of Yogacharya BKS Iyengar has saddened the yoga world with the loss of the most renowned Yoga Master of our time.

Classes at OM Yoga follow the classical tradition of the teachings of T Krishnamacharya, who was the guru of BKS Iyengar, Patabois Jois and TKV Desikachar.

These great masters are famous for taking the ancient art of yoga from its roots in India to the western world. In America, from statistics collected in 2013, it is estimated that 15 million people are practicing a form of yoga.

The core values of our dedicated group of teachers are: continuing study and practice in order to give service to the community and provide yoga to as wide a population as possible.

We offer an in-depth and integrated approach to yoga, combining yoga history and philosophy with the physical practices of asana and breath control.

The poses are individualised for each person’s body type and special needs and the use of props. Meditation and cultivating the art of stillness is of great benefit when we consider that 1 in 5 Australians suffer from depression.

OM Yoga, previously The Centre Om, opened its doors in the year 2000 adjacent to the Central Market and quickly became a popular place for Adelaide City yogis, offering a wide variety of different classes for all ages and levels.

Today, 20 years on, our lovely studio is situated in the quiet eastern fringe of the city with adjacent parking and set-down points on the free 91A city bus close by (get off at Halifax and Pulteney).

We are located at the southern end of the Frome St bike lane (corner of Carrington and Regent St North).
